To the summit of the “sleeping lion”

The Ponoig close to Polop is also known as the “sleeping lion”. It offers brilliant multi-pitch climbing, a nice and exposed Via Ferrata which we did last week as well as several walks.

This week we guided a lovely client from Benidorm  to the summit of Ponoig. Tony picked up Clare in Benidorm at 09:00 am and took her to the heliport car park at the foot of the “sleeping lion”. From there the walk started a long the southern face of the mountain up to the “Col del Llamp”.

The “Col de Llamp” is the gateway for many different walks in the area and the start of the approch towards Ponoig’s summit.

So, the two walkers followed the lion’s back up to the summit where they enjoyed the November sun and the beautiful views inland and towards the sea.

On their way back they turned rightwards at the “Col de Llamp” and dropped down into the “Val de Guardar”. They followed the pass along Ponoig’s north face which led them back to the car park through the pine forest which covers the sleeping lion’s lower flanks.

Clare left us a nice 5* review on Facebook:

“Brilliant fun, friendly and ‘sensible when needed’ pair…oh and not to forget Pretz the pooch…awesome guide!” – Clare Morris, November, 10th 2015

Thanks a lot, Clare, for the review. We’re happy that you’ve enjoyed the walk with us.
